Mr. Yap Wei Sin

Consul General of Malaysia, Hong Kong & Macau

Mr. Yap Wei Sin arrived in Hong Kong on 21 March 2019 to take up his assignment as Consul General of Malaysia in Hong Kong and Macau.

The career diplomat joined the Malaysian Foreign Service in 2005, starting as a political officer in the Americas Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). In 2007, he was assigned as a political officer in the Middle East and North Africa Division, MFA. In 2010, he was sent on his maiden posting abroad as Second Secretary (and later as First Secretary in 2012) at the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila, Philippines. In 2013, he was posted as Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Kuwait. In 2016, he was transferred back to MFA to take up the position of Director at the ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat. He was then assigned in 2017 as Special Officer to the Secretary General of MFA, before being transferred to Hong Kong in March 2019.

The Consul General holds an MScEcon in International Politics from the University of Aberystwyth, Wales and a BA (Hons.) in International Relations from the University of Hull, UK. He received his secondary education at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia and his primary education at Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Mr. Yap is married to Mrs. Azlin Ariffin Shah and they are blessed with two children.
