Saniza is an Alternative Dispute Resolution lawyer. Qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Instituted of Arbitrators, she is an accredited mediator at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited. She serves on the panel of adjudicators, arbitrators, and mediators at the Asian International Arbitration Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Saniza is the founder of the Michael & Saniza Collection. As an art aesthete, she is quite involved in the arts scene and a keen supporter of artists. In addition to her own collection, she helps other private collectors build their art portfolios. Her passion is in Chinese Ink and women artists globally.
Saniza has a strong passion in helping the legal community. She serves as the Chairwoman of the Alumni Association of the LL.M in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution at the University of Hong Kong; and she is the donor of the Saniza Othman and Michael Yong-Haron Prize for the top student in Alternative Dispute Resolution. A committee member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators East Asia Branch, she serves as a judge in international arbitration and mediation competitions.
Saniza has had a multifaceted legal career. She was a pupil barrister at the legendary 2-3 Grays Inn Square, then headed by Anthony Scrivener QC, famous for the Carrian case. After a stint as a barrister in London, she relocated to Hong Kong and worked in-house at Credit Suisse Investment Banking and BNP Paribas where she specialized in derivatives and hedge funds.
Saniza earned a LL.M (Distinction) in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from the University of Hong Kong and received her LL.B from the University of Wales, United Kingdom. A member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, she read the Bar Vocational Course at the renowned Inns of Court School of Law in London and received a Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Legal Skills from the City University in London. In her love for life, Saniza enjoys gourmet cooking, ballroom dancing and globetrotting. A seafarer, she is a qualified sailor for boats up to 50 feet and an advanced nitrox scuba diver. She has also raised several million dollars for commercial chamber and charities that support children’s cause.
