About the forum

The World Chinese Economic Forum was founded by its Patron, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew and Organising Chairman, Tan Sri Michael Yeoh 11 years ago in Kuala Lumpur. Since then, the Forum has been held in Chongqing, China, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur and Malacca in Malaysia.

This year the Forum is re-branded as the World Chinese Business and Economic Summit (WCBES) to refocus on the importance of business as a driver of sustainable economic growth and as builders of bridges across communities, nations and cultures. The partnership between Government, Business, Think Tanks and Scholars is a key priority for the WCBES which provides a meeting of minds for Entrepreneurs, Strategists and Government Officials.

The WCBES promotes entrepreneurship, smart partnerships, the digital economy, connectivity and green growth. It also
aims to connect the East and West and the Global Chinese Diaspora. This year bringing the WCBES to Macau in conjunction with The World Summit of Chinese Entrepreneurs is apt and timely as Macau, Hong Kong and Guangdong has been designated as a Greater Bay Area, a megapolis consisting of 9 cities and 2 Special Administrative Region. The Greater Bay Area will provide more business and investment opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors.

2019 also marks the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region and the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. It is also the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
